Factory Studios

MediaPros recently completed a major upgrade to Soho-based Post Production facility Factory Studios, the install included an Avid ICON D-Control console, upgrades to Apple Mac Pro & Pro Tools|HD 8 Accel in all existing audio suites and an Apple Xserve based XSAN and Final Cut Server shared storage solution.

Sound Engineer and Technical Support Manager at Factory, Ben Firth said:

"The upgrade to the production facilities here at Factory was essential in maintaining first class servicing of our clients. We can now offer a complete production solution from conception though to On Air material, live shoots, editing, 3D Graphics and much more.”

The installation of the Apple Xserve SAN system will allow us to manage all production jobs and assets in one central location, allowing more time for creative work from our team of skilled editors and designers. And the company’s clients will also be able to log in at any time and from anywhere in the world to check the progress of their video or audio projects.

MediaPros upgraded Factory’s four audio suites to the latest version of Pro Tools|HD 8 Accel all running on the latest Apple Mac Pro 8 core Workstations, the suites will be used for work with leading advertising agencies, major label record companies and production companies.

The company has also installed a 16 fader ICON D-Control console into Factory’s new Dolby Approved Theatre. The installation of the ICON in the Dolby Suite will not only help Factory attract new clients but will also improve the services it can offer its existing client base.

Ben commented: "The development of broadcast HD has dictated that more and more mixes are now being supplied in Dolby Surround as well as stereo, as standard. We felt that investment in this area of audio production was crucial in the long term.

“The new Dolby Approved Theatre is an excellent addition to our existing audio suites and is not only suitable for stereo mixing but is also licensed for Dolby Surround Mixes for trailers and commercials.

”The room will offer both an improved service for our existing clients while also allowing us to target a new client base for Dolby Surround Mixing.”

The new Dolby Approved Theatre is also equipped with a 5.1 Focal Professional monitoring system, making it the first Dolby Approved studio in the UK to use this technology.

Alongside the studio installs, MediaPros has also upgraded the Transfer Room with an Overland SnapServer NAS storage blade to back up all the work being carried out at Factory.

Factory Studios employs a team of experienced producers and designers, who provide a wide range of audio/video services for both the advertising and music industries. The company has worked on a number of high-profile projects including sound design for the BBC Winter Olympics Trailer, which won Best Titles at the BAFTA Television Craft Awards 2010, as well as a full production of an internal Presentation for the re-launch of Deconstruction Records.

MediaPros Technical Sales Consultant Yan Gilbert-Miguet oversaw the installation of the upgrade at Factory, Ben added: “We’ve dealt with the MediaPros team for several years, their expertise in commissioning systems is invaluable - not only do they provide competitive prices for equipment, their knowledge, advice and after sales support is first class.”
